DanDawson-3-24-15-TreechatNightmare scenario: a tree falls on your house-- or on power lines leading to the house. The Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA) has some cautionary tales about working with trees in the vicinity of electrical hazards. A full 30% of tree care industry fatalities are caused by electrical hazards.

First and foremost, this is a situation for the professionals! Homeowners are best served by calling in knowledgeable and certified arborists. TCIA maintains a complete roster of arborists with current EHAP certificates, available online.  Learn how the TCIA network is using their Electrical Hazards Awareness Program (EHAP) to develop skills that arborists need to safely work around electricity. In addition, the Occupational Tree Care Accidents Report is a sobering listing of accidents, near misses, and fatalities in the tree care industry.
